*we have determined to rely for our security and survival upon the justice and good faith of the peace-loving peoples of the world*

わたしたちの安全と生存は世界の平和を愛する諸国民の正義と善意にお願いすることをもはや決めてしまいました。

 

「平和を愛する諸国民の公正と信義に信頼してわれらの安全と生存を保持しようと決意した」

 

憲法9条2項

*No army, navy, air force, or other war potential will ever be authorized and no rights of belligerency will ever be conferred upon the State.*

 

武装解除し自衛権(国際法上認められている国家固有の権利)を剥奪します、とも読み取れる。

 

「陸海空軍その他の戦力は、これを保持しない。国の交戦権は、これを認めない」
